The Economic Empowerment of Disabled Farmers in Eastern Province Sri Lanka

The “Economic Empowerment of Disabled Farmers in Eastern Province Sri Lanka” project, funded by the Australian Direct Aid Programme and executed by the Centre for Handicapped, has concluded successfully in Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province. This initiative aimed to make a genuine impact on the lives of persons with disabilities by providing them with prosthetic limbs and required agricultural tools. The project selected farmers who are leg amputees in Ampara, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa, equipping 105 beneficiaries with agricultural resources. Comprehensive training in organic farming further enriched their skills. Over a year, this endeavor transformed lives, enhancing mobility, independence, and expertise, fostering a ripple effect of positive change within families and communities
